Jaguar heeft grote plannen met elektrisch racen in de
Formula E. Dat blijkt uit de presentatie van het nieuwe Formula
E-team van het merk, de hoofdsponsor, de coureurs en de livery van
de Formula E-raceauto. Het team, met daarin de Nederlander Ho-Pin
Tung, neemt onder de naam Panasonic Jaguar Racing deel aan het
derde seizoen van het FIA Formula E-kampioenschap. De eerste race
vindt plaats op 9 oktober in Hong Kong. Het team rijdt met de
Jaguar I-TYPE 1, de eerste volledig elektrisch aangedreven raceauto
in de geschiedenis van Jaguar.
Tijdens de presentatie in het Jaguar Collections Centre reed
Ho-Pin Tung, de officiële reservecoureur van het team, de I-TYPE 1
binnen. De auto belichaamt de missie van Jaguar - 'Race To
Innovate' - om de beeldvorming over elektrisch rijden te
veranderen, nieuwe elektrotechnologie te ontwikkelen en toekomstige
generaties te inspireren.
Ook presenteerde Jaguar de coureurs die het komende seizoen in
de I-TYPE 1 rijden: Adam Carroll en Mitch Evans. Met deze coureurs
keert het merk terug op het hoogste niveau van de autosport. Verder
belichtte Jaguar zijn partnerschap met Panasonic. De toonaangevende
elektronicafabrikant wil samen met het Jaguar Racing Formula E-team
de grenzen van de elektrische techniek verleggen.
Jaguar maakte verder bekend dat Lear Corporation - wereldleider
op het gebied van autostoelen en elektrische systemen - ook
Official Team Partner is.

Jaguar Land Rover, benadrukt het belang van Formula E voor
de ontwikkeling van de techniek voor de volgende generatie
elektrische auto's en voor het toekomstige modellengamma van Jaguar
Land Rover: 'Over the next five years we will see more changes in
the automotive world than in the last three decades. The
championship will enable us to engineer and test our advanced
technologies under extreme performance conditions. We will apply
this vital knowledge as part of our real world development. At
Jaguar Land Rover we employ 9,000 engineers and the team will draw
on these engineers to extract data and push the boundaries of
electric technology in a race environment.'
Het team van Panasonic Jaguar Racing heeft 21 dagen van testen
succesvol afgerond. De laatste officiële publieke testdag vond
plaats op het circuit van Donington Park.

Coureurs Panasonic Jaguar Racing
Ho-Pin Tung, 33 jaar, Nederland
De Nederlander Ho-Pin Tung komt bij Panasonic Jaguar Racing met
een schat aan ervaring in monoposto's, onder meer in Formule 3,
A1GP, GP2, WEC, IndyCar en als testrijder in de Formule 1. Tung
heeft ook ervaring in de Formula E, want hij heeft drie races
gereden in het eerste seizoen van het FIA Formula E
Championship.
Ho-Pin Tung vertelt: 'Ik denk dat Jaguars deelname een
belangrijke gebeurtenis is voor het FIA Formula E Championship. Ik
heb ervaring in deze raceklasse en heb gezien hoe effectief Formula
E de nieuwste technologie demonstreert aan de fans in steden overal
ter wereld. Ik hoop dat ik een belangrijke bijdrage kan leveren aan
de toekomst van elektrische mobiliteit en aan Jaguars toch al
indrukwekkende erelijst in de racerij.'
Adam Carroll, 33 jaar, Noord-Ierland
Adam Carroll is snel en ervaren. Hij heeft vrijwel alle
raceklassen doorlopen, van karts via Formule 3, GP2, A1GP, IndyCar
tot aan WEC. Hij heeft ook het meeste testwerk gedaan voor het
Panasonic Jaguar Racing Team.
Adam Carroll vertelt: 'It's a real privilege to be racing for
Jaguar in Formula E. You only have to look at the calibre of the
other drivers in the series to see the level of competitiveness and
prestige that this championship now has. To drive for Jaguar is
also a dream come true. They are the biggest brand to come into the
series and one of the most evocative names in racing.'
Mitch Evans, 22 jaar, Nieuw-Zeeland
Met diverse kampioenstitels in karting en monoposto's, inclusief
de GP3-titel van 2012, heeft de jonge Evans goede papieren. Hij nam
in 2015 deel aan de Historische 24-uursrace van Le Mans, waarin hij
tweede in zijn klasse werd. In 2016 nam hij deel aan de GP2 Series
bij het team van Campos Racing.
Mitch Evans vertelt: 'Formula E is a real drivers' championship
with some of the most competitive racing in the world. Any of the
drivers will tell you how challenging it is to find the limit in a
Formula E car and gain those extra tenths and I'm looking forward
to the season ahead. Some of history's most iconic cars have been
developed by Jaguar, and I'm thrilled to be part of Jaguar's
electric future and our return to motorsport.'
